Amy P. Collins is a native of Savannah, Georgia. After graduating from high school Amy decided to pursue her passion by studying art at the University of Virginia. She continued her studies with a Master’s of Science Degree in Medical Illustration from the Medical College of Georgia. It was a natural progression for someone with a love of art and an interest in the sciences.

"Having been a medical illustrator for over 25 years, I have had the opportunity to incorporate my artistic skills in a professional career. For years I have painted the intricacies of the human body, creating cellular landscapes, and explaining scientific concepts through pictures. Over the last few years I have concentrated more on one of my true passions - oil painting. The subject matter varies from still lifes to landscapes to figurative works.

I am intrigued with the figure and how painting it allows a connection to resonate with the viewer that is both mysterious and empathetic. There is an evolution of sorts, from the time my figures begin until the last brushstroke is applied. Often the personality emerges as I paint.

Cows and other animals also provide inspiration, and I try to capture their individual personalities with colorful brushstrokes."

Amy has exhibited in several juried shows and is represented locally at Artists Incorporated Gallery in Birmingham.
